The SLA 3D printing process is a chemical process in which photosensitive liquid resin undergoes molecular transformation when exposed to specific wavelengths of light. The process begins with a construction platform submerged beneath the surface of a resin tank.

Ultraviolet laser (usually with a wavelength of 355nm or 405nm) accurately targets points on the surface of liquid resin based on digital design data, and cures and solidifies the resin layer by layer. The laser transmission system uses a galvanometer (high-precision mirror) to direct the laser on the resin surface rapidly.

Each cross-section of the 3D model is drawn by laser. As the construction platform gradually rises from the resin barrel, the subsequent layers are bonded together with the previous layer. This layer-by-layer method continues until a complete object is formed. Then it is carefully removed from the platform for post-processing.

Industrial SLA 3D printing printers have a size up to 2 meters in length. Some bigger parts over this size can not be 3d printed as a whole and have to be cut into pieces and then glued or assembled.
